Satisfied Eye Magazine features alumni filmmakers

Having won my first filmmaking award at the Satisfied Eye International Film Festival, I was delighted to be asked to feature in their new film industry magazine.

A few months ago, I was approached by Satisfied Eye International Film Festival to feature in the first issue of the Satisfied Eye Magazine. The issue features short interviews with SEIFF alumni filmmakers, asking them how they navigate their way through the film industry and finding out what they have been up to since being part of the festival. This shows how much this festival cares about the connections they make with filmmakers who screen their films at the festival. I am very proud to be part of this alumni community.

In 2018, I was absolutely thrilled to win the award of Best Female Director at SEIFF for my first short documentary, Goodnight, Friend. I had received really positive feedback from the judges and I had been touched by audience members who had approached me after the screening, but to win an award was such a lovely surprise.

SEIFF had its inaugural year in 2018 and has already achieved the status of being an IMDB listed festival. Besides that, it has started to gain a following among independent filmmakers who have experienced first-hand what this great little festival has to offer and gone on to spread the word. The festival is clear in its mission:

The Satisfied Eye International Film Festival’s core mission is to build a film driven campfire; to create experiences where people connect in lasting ways, a vibrant and thriving community of people from all sectors – the industry, the public, families, students, educators, businesses and the media – united in a true celebration of film.

My own experience of SEIFF was entirely positive. After screening my film there in its first year, I decided to attend as an audience member in the next year and on both occasions I received such a warm welcome from the festival organisers. This really is a festival where making meaningful connections is just as important as watching great films. So much so, that I was delighted when SEIFF Artistic Director, Chris Hastings, asked me to collaborate with him and some other SEIFF team members on upcoming documentary feature film on the subject of cosplay.

The new Satisfied Eye Magazine is yet another way that Chris and the team are planning to connect with those working in the film industry as well as cover key issues and challenges that face filmmakers today. You can read the full first issue of the magazine here, including my interview.
